Upcoming Workshops - Summer 2026

This summer we will be running a range of workshops for musicians of all ages. We are trialling this for the first time in May half-term, with the rest to be scheduled soon after for the Summer holidays. Find out more below!

African Rhythms

Saturday 30th May 2026 - Goyt Mill Creative Corner

Timetable:

10:30am - Interactive Storytime for Kids

Suggested Price - £5

We will be telling the West African folk story of 'Anansi & Goat', adapted by Charlie into a musical story starring our favourite stuffed goat, Sully! We have a specially written song adapted from original poems and our percussionists will be providing additional sound.

We suggest that this session is best suited for children up to 7 years old and would be perfect for those who usually attend our 'Pygmy Goats' early music sessions on a Saturday morning.

11am - Kids Percussion Workshop with Iain

Suggested Price - £10

In this group workshop for kids we will be learning about African Rhythms from percussionists Iain Mellor and Katie Stringfellow.

We suggest that this session is suitable for children aged 5 - 13 of all musical abillities.

12pm - Kids Songbook - Special Edition!

Suggested Price - £5

Our usual kids songbook session for Plucky Goat students at a slightly later time and with percussion provided by Iain & Katie!

12:30pm - Build Your Own Rainstick

Suggested Price - £5

An all-ages DIY workshop with Patrick. We will be building African rain sticks using giant bamboo and dried lentils (thanks to our friends at Lentils & Lather!) We strongly recommend booking this one in advance as we will only have limited materials.

1:30pm - The Life of Miriam Makeba

Suggested Price - £5

Take a breather from a busy day of music to learn about the life of 'Mama Africa', Miriam Makeba. Patrick will talk you through her life and her influence on modern Western music.

2:30pm - Adult Percussion Workshop with Iain

Suggested Price - £10

This group workshop will replace our usual Saturday afternoon ukulele session. Join us as we learn some African Rhythms from Iain & Katie. This session is suitable for musicians of all abilities.

3:30pm - Adults Songbook - Special Edition!

Our usual adults songbook session for Plucky Goat students at a slightly later time and with percussion provided by Iain & Katie! You won't want to miss this one.

5 days to the event
Sat 30 May
Goyt Mill
A day of workshops at Goyt Mill Creative Corner

We are excited to announce our biggest Saturday yet! This May half-term we are trialling a themed Saturday in a bigger space at the Goyt Mill Creative Corner. We will be running all of our usual activities with slightly different timings and with additional support from the wonderful Iain Mellor & Katie Stringfellow of Iain Mellor's Drum Machine. We will also have some additional sessions for you to try out.

Students are welcome to bring their usual instruments or just come along and see what we have to play! New musicians are very welcome too.

As there will be workshops running throughout the day, we will be providing snacks and drinks, as well as a colouring and craft table for little ones who want to step away from the instruments for a while.

Feel free to join us for any of the sessions we have timetabled. We kindly request that you book your place in advance with a £5 deposit per booking (regardless of how many sessions you book in for). This helps us to provide as much as possible for you on the day and allows us to plan our sessions better.

We have listed suggested prices for each session here and on the bookings page. We will have a pay-what-you-can Honesty Box & QR code at the venue on the day for any additional contributions you are able to make on top of your £5 booking deposit. This helps us to pay our musicians fairly and provide more events like this in the future.

Thankyou :)
